The screws have become stripped over time. Stripped screws are not able to hold a knob or handle in place as stripped screws cause the loosening of the handle. The parts of the knob or handle are old or have not been maintained properly. Old knobs and handles loosen as a result of built-up dirt and grime within the locking mechanism.The inside handle cover should be the same as the exterior cover without the 2 screw holes. Both the knob and cover plate is removable to access the screws. The 2 screw holes don't need to be there and appear to be "cheap". Also, the screws fell short I had used the flat-head screw for this installation, and was not flush with the cover plate.Rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise. Insert the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole. You may feel the tool click inside the lock. Remove the SmarKey tool. Remove the current key.
